Laser / Surgical removal of birthmarks
Removal of birthmarks at ALTOS clinic is a safe and effective method for anyone who wants to improve the appearance of the skin. We remove birthmarks by using fractional CO₂ laser or surgical excision to ensure optimal results.
Laser or surgical removal of birthmarks is an important step that can be done for health or aesthetic reasons. It’s essential to pay regular attention to your skin, and if you notice any changes in a birthmark such as shape, color, or size, it’s crucial to seek professional help immediately. Also, be mindful of symptoms like itching or bleeding.
We conduct a thorough assessment using a dermatoscope, which is key for evaluating the condition of the birthmark. If it appears problematic, surgical removal is recommended, allowing the sample to be sent for histological examination to rule out any malignancy.
Fortunately, most birthmarks do not pose any health risks and their removal is often performed for purely aesthetic reasons. If the birthmark shows no changes, it can be safely removed with a laser. This method is minimally invasive, targets only the specific birthmark, and leaves the surrounding tissue intact. After the procedure, the resulting wound heals quickly, minimizing the risk of scarring. The choice of method depends on the specific situation, so it’s always advisable to discuss options with an experienced dermatologist.

How the treatment is performed
- Removal with a high-performance CO₂ laser
Targets only the unwanted mole, which is gradually vaporized layer by layer. The resulting wound is covered with a bandage, and the scab that forms will fall off on its own. The procedure can be performed after applying a topical anesthetic cream for slight numbness. A significant advantage of this procedure is minimal bleeding and rapid healing - Surgical excision
This procedure involves removing the mole along with surrounding healthy tissue, which helps reduce the risk of malignancy. The doctor applies a local anesthetic to ensure a painless process, and after excision, the wound is carefully sutured
Laser used
In our clinic, we perform procedures using the SmartXide2 CO₂ fractional laser from the Italian manufacturer DEKA. This system represents a true innovation and is the only platform on the market that combines CO₂ and diode lasers, allowing for a wide range of applications in various medical fields. SmartXide2 is the result of advanced development of the RF CO₂ laser source and is equipped with the unique PSD® (Pulse Shape Design) technology.
The laser utilizes the synergistic action of the CO₂ laser and radiofrequency (RF) waves, enabling it to effectively penetrate all layers of the skin. The SmartXide2 DOT/RF technology allows customization of all operational parameters and modulation of treatments to meet the specific needs of individual patients, ensuring optimal results in accordance with the properties and target tissues of the skin.
The SmartXide Dot laser targets water in the dermis, which is the supportive layer of skin containing most of the collagen. The action of the laser leads to the removal of tissue within the dots, with each dot surrounded by a space that allows for thermal damage to the tissue. This thermal damage is key to achieving excellent results. The SmartXide Dot laser is set for different types of treatments, maximizing benefits for the patient; surface issues, such as pigment disorders and mild wrinkles, are treated closely together, while deeper problems, such as scars and more pronounced skin folds, require greater distances between dots and longer time intervals.
Collagen shrinkage due to thermal damage immediately tightens the skin. Importantly, about a month after treatment, further improvement in skin firmness and collagen density occurs, which can last up to a year due to the collagen remodeling process. The SmartXide2 DOT/RF technology also eliminates the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
Before the procedure
Before each procedure, a professional consultation with a doctor takes place. It is essential to determine the type of skin lesion and accurately propose a removal procedure. Each growth, mole, or wart should be carefully examined using a dermatoscope.
After the procedure
For quick healing and good regeneration, ensure thorough protection of the skin from sun exposure by using high-SPF sunscreen. Immediately after the procedure, at the treated site redness may appear and small scabs may form, which we do not recommend removing. New skin will gradually form at the site of the mole removal, and it should be protected with sunscreen.
